Race Report: Cape Cod Mini-Triathlon

Matt Westhoven and friends
Falmouth, Cape Cod

Course is on the Atlantic Ocean (vistas and Martha’s Vineyard are with you most of the way):
– 1/3-mile swim: rectangle design; Atlantic Ocean in Nantucket Sound; normally in low to mid-70s.
– 9-mile bike: scenic loop along the Falmouth Road Race course. Some strategic twists ‘n turns and gently rolling terrain.
– 3.1-mile run: flat, scenic, ocean-hugging, out-and-back along Surf Drive and onto the bike path towards Woods Hole.

Not enough training for me…in fact I gained 2-3 pounds over the training period leading up to the race (I like to drink beer). I’m also anti wetsuit and spandex (because I’m not gay), so apparently I lost a little time due to that (but I still have my manhood).
Finished 132 out of 600 participants, total time of 1:03:21.
Swim:
(1/3 mile) – 8:48 (316th): not bad for me, I was happy with this part

Bike:
(9mile)- 30:04 (89th): not bad either..especially since my bike is pretty basic compared to some of the all-stars there.

Run:
(3.1 mile) – 24:28 (152nd): this was a disaster. I’ve done this same race in 3 full minutes less time…fat, cramping, hot..oh, and fat.
